Common Acne Myths
There are many traditional myths about acne that are simply not true. For example, if your friends are telling you that acne is caused by poor diet, emotional stress, or bad hygiene – none of these factors have anything to do with acne. If you have acne, you should realize once and for all that it is not your fault or something you did; we are born with a tendency to either have or not to have acne and it is linked to the physical structure of the pores (follicular ducts) in the skin.
Someone who does not have a predisposition to have acne can eat a pound of chocolate everyday along with greasy foods like pizza and French fries and not have a single pimple.
If you do have a tendency to develop acne then it is in fact important to watch your diet and practice a healthy lifestyle. Eating junk food, being exposed to emotional stress and not taking care of your skin properly will worsen your acne condition. These factors can lead to increased sebum production and high incidence of eruptions on the skin forming more acne.

Myth: Acne can be cured.
Fact: At this time acne cannot be cured. The condition can be treated effectively until acne either goes away on its own or until a cure is developed.
Myth: You should let acne run its course.

Myth: Acne is an infection.
Fact: Acne is a condition linked to a certain structure of the pore (follicular duct) and increased sebum production by the oil glands. Acne is not an infection and cannot be transmitted.
Myth: Acne is a cosmetic disease and does not need to be taken seriously.
Fact: Acne can have profound psychological consequences in both teens and adults and leads to withdrawal from social and work related activities. It is important to take steps to treat acne.
