General Tips

There is no cure for acne, but a proper treatment program along with certain lifestyle, hygiene, and dietary changes can keep the condition under control. You can take control and have clear, radiant, and healthy looking skin. There has never been a case of acne that could not be treated, so do not despair no matter how bad your acne may be. If you have some specific questions about acne, feel free to write to us by clicking here and a member of our staff will get back to you within 24 hours.

Here are some general tips that should be followed to maintain healthy looking skin and prevent new acne blemishes from forming:

Use Trioxil® (bisazulene gel) 14% every day before bedtime and try never to skip treatment. If you forget, then do not apply it twice the next day. Apply it only once the following day and resume the normal treatment cycle.

Follow the skin care basics outlined here. Whatever you do, always be gentle to your skin by avoiding harsh scrubbing and over-washing. Never wash your face with soap or cleansers more then twice a day. If your face gets oily throughout the day, simply splash it with warm water.

Never pick or squeeze blemishes with your bare hands. If a pimple is about to pop then you can squeeze it with cotton balls or Q tips and clean out the puss.

Eat a well-balanced diet, avoiding junk food and in particular sugary foods. Sugary foods are generally much more harmful then greasy foods.

Wash your hair often, preferably everyday. Infrequently washed hair often has been linked to the development of more acne.

It is ok to go tanning and get a limited amount of sun exposure. However, you should take great care to prevent over-exposure to the sun.

It is always good to exercise several times a week. Exercise improves circulation to the skin and improves the over-all complexion.

If you use makeup, make sure that you choose oil free cosmetics.

Shave carefully. Do not apply pressure on the razor when gliding it against your skin.

In general, we highly encourage practicing a healthy lifestyle for acne sufferers.
